Heres another good example of using a winsock control to access a ADO database over a network/dialup connection. This project shows how to Add/Delete, Read/Write access with ease. Also I have inbedded authentication against the database via the winsock control. Very simple application that stores information about software. Stores Title,Serial#/CD-Key, Company/Author. Most significant thing is the use of DAO 3.6 to manipulate the database and write the report for printing. Code is commented, and clean. Limited error-checking and input checking. I do not plan on doing much more with this program, other than use it to keep a list of my own software. Please give me comments, votes NOT needed or requested.

We had a client who 'accidently' copied one databse table into itself causing duplicate records. Unfortunately Access only allows 10 columns in its De Duplicate wizard and we had twenty! This code allows you to pick the database you want deduplicating, lists the tables and the fields within the table so that you can chose the 'key' fields to deduplicate on. Then it creates a table within the database which contains all of the deleted duplicates from the table you chose.

This is a little program if you have a table on SQL Server and for example wants to select 200 rows for each department and you have 2000 departments to select for. And maby the should be selected randomly and only those with phonenumbers. This tool will do the trick.

This is a simple address book. It takes 5 minutes to make and is really useful. The one bad thing is it does not have a list of names, you just have to scan through your entry's to find the one you want. Still, it is pretty easy to work and use.

Convert all the structure basics of an Access database to a XML code.
This project shows you how a user login to program and access menu based on his/her level. Program will display every possibility fails message whenever user failed try to login. The chances for login are only 3 times. After that, user must try again from begining. I also made a form to manage user account, that can be accessed only by user with level 'Admin'. Password field was encrypted in database. 'Admin' can manage all user accounts (add, edit, update, delete, change password, decrypt password, view user activity that saved in database, convert/transfer user activity data to log text file, and view that log text file). User can change his/her password. If user level is 'Operator' or 'Manager', he/she can only change his/her own password, but 'Admin', he can change all password user, and his too, of course. And I made menu to compact, repair, and backup database to manage your database performances. I use database Access97 password protected. I also made setting menu to change program setting (run program at startup - this will be occured if you had made an .exe file named 'LOGIN.exe', display screen saver if program idles in for a certain time, protect screen saver with user password, and don't show tips at startup. There is a 'Tips of Day' which display its data from text file. You can learn how to make a tips form and display the tips form or hide it at startup. The user activities that saved in database can be transfered to text file, and this log text file can be displayed from this program, too. So, user activities data can be transfered to text file, and you can delete the records from database. This will reduce your database file size. I made a screen saver form with analog clock. I used Thaha Husain's code to make the needle clock movement (just like a clock in your wall). Thanks to Husain for this code. Screen saver cannot be interrupted by 'Ctrl-Alt-Del', 'Alt-F4', 'Ctrl-Break', etc. Only active/current user can quit form screen saver. If user quit from this program, there will be an offers from program whether your computer would be shut down directly by program or not. Well, that's all I think. Hope it's very useful for you. This is a database purely written in Visual Basic. Gotta check this out because, it doesnt use any API's, User Controls, and even modules or class modules. You can store up to unlimited pages (thats what I know) with 10 rows of data per page. And it is written in a unique extension file (I hope) and has a unique way of storing its settings. The trick is the powerful InStr() method. I hope you'll like this idea. Simple yet useful and, plus it has a search tool. Please send me some comments, that'll do. Basiscally for my grade I made this program which loads up a database with everyone's schedule. Then it compares the schedule with the current person's and shows who is in what class. When you use it for your highschool I recommend you complete the autoupdate and use room numbers because, that is the easiest way to get what class someone is in, rather than Teacher and Class. Make a webpage which gets the Info from a person and make a database out of it. I hope you guys like it

You can use this source code to store informations(number of Cd, name, performer, duration ...) about your MP3 song in Access database. You can also edit your data and delete them and then recover it from recycle bin. There are print option (I use Data report in VB6), and you can first made and querry for what you want to print and then print your selection. In Data report you can export selected report in htlm, word or text file. Some bugs are possible, but I work this during the temperature of +40 celsius. There are no (still but I will in future) code descriptions and all forms are on serbian but I think that there are no difficulties for understanding and translating (I was lazy) all of them.
This code is an ADO data provider for NCSA Log Files for web servers. This class module allows you to bind controls on your form to the log file. This could be used for browsing through the data, putting it into a flexgrid, binding to a chart control, etc. Interface for querying data. The focus of this code is the data provider class, not the form. The form contains a small code example of how you could bind to this provider, not what you should do with this provider.
This program will allow you to physically map fields between two Access databases and then transfer the data (overwrite or append). You physically map it by clicking on an item in a list and then drag a 'Connector' object (just a bunch of lines thrown together in a class) to a field in another list. This is an improvement on my previous Access Field Mapper. This program allows you to open two Access databases and Map fields between two different tables (performs AutoMapping as well). After you've finished mapping the fields you can transfer the data with one click. This code demonstrate how to connect to database (Patients97) using ADO code alone. I also demonstrate using the MonthView control and MSHFlexgrid control. The database called Patients97 contains customer details like name , address, customer number etc and appointment date and time. On the form, I have an MSHFlexgrid control, a MonthView control and a command button(cmdViewAppt). Clicking the command button connects to the database using ADO code and the details are displayed on the MSHFlexgrid control. You can display appointments for a particular date by clicking on a date on the MonthView control (MonthView1_DateClick event) and the result is displayed on the MSHFlexgrid control. I have not figured out how to create a report yet. What I'll like to do is to be able to pull the information on the MSHFlexgrid control and display it as a report which can be viewed and printed.Preferably I'll like to use the data report designer but I won't mind using excel or word or is there a way to use DataEnvironment designer? If you have ever tried to access a FOXPRO 6.0 Database that is linked with other FOXPRO 6.0 Database(s), you will find that it is impossible to do (even with Microsoft Access 97 / 2000)... until now.

This application was written with the intent to serve as an example of how to use the MSChart control that is shipped with Visual Basic. I've found out, the hard way, that the documentation for Microsoft's chart control is poorly written, if not totally useless! A fairly basic INI photo and text database using GUID gen for entries and string encoding for basic file formatting and encryption. Includes Byte arrays for fast image loading and GDI+ with new function for byte array loading and resizing of images. Images are stored in individual separate data files so INI don't get over loaded. If your looking to learn about converting different data types to and from text strings this code will provide you with several very good examples. Their is lots of room for customizations for what ever specific uses you can find for it. This program loops through an Access database of IP addresses and pings every one continuously. You can add, delete your own IP addresses. You can customize a status event to trigger when a time tolerance is reached. Then you can be notified of a problem. I wrote something like this years ago for our network department to alphanumerically page the on call if an IP timed out. We had servers, routers, and switches in the list. I wanted to have a module that searches from a table and completes the text box with a similar value from the table as I type. I also wanted to have a navigational control like Flexgrid to highlight the row with the same value in the autocomplete text box. I have searched some vb source code websites and found only codes with grids that filters only the table with records that matches the string to be searched. I created this module (thanks to mautheman for the autocomplete module) and now I'm sharing with you the autocomplete textbox with flexgrid search source code which is useful in searching records. This tool lets you copy the column of IDs, transforms them into a delimited string that can be pasted into an SQL 'IN' clause to search those IDs in the other table(s). I found it a time-saver debugging relational databases; you might too. Again, nothing ground breaking here. Newbies might find a couple of things useful, but really targetted for DB mgrs.

myAnalyzer is a simple query analyzer that allows users to run SQL Statements to their mySQL database. This program does not use ADO but rather connects directly to mySQL through the DLL file included with mySQL (this through the help of some code borrowed from an individual mentioned inside the code). myAnalyzer also allows the user to save the sql query as well as print the query or it's results. The program has full search capabilities and can run multiple queries in one window or multiple queries through several databases in an MDI environment. I created this code to track my movies I have and where they are located. I also uploaded it as an example of running queries in an Access database. I use the DiskID field to tell me which disk a movie is located on(each disk has it's own number). This program will allow you to add/delete and print movie titles to the database for later searching and placement. Feel free to use this code in any of your projects. I haven't tested the print function because i was out of ink, but it should work just fine. It also has a function which allows you to open a web page from the program using your default web browser. Get the entire list of NFL Players from NFL.com. This program will query the NFL.com web site and put a list of all the players into a database. As it is right now there is only some simple Profile information and pictures taken from the web site. I was having a problem extracting the players statistical information. I am currently working on that and I will update this submission when I finish that within a couple of days. I needed to get a list of all the NFL players with stats for my fantasy football league and I hate going to each players individual page so thats why I created NFL Player Mill. This can take a long time to complete depending on your internet connection. It took about 5 min to complete with a cable modem so make sure you have a fast connection before using this otherwise it will take all night to complete. Please let me know what you think of this. I didn't comment much in the code, most of it is simple there is just a lot of code which makes it seem complicated. If you need help understanding something in the code please email me and I will help you.

The Employee.mdb file that is part of this sample app is Access 97 format, and it MUST be 97 as the old version of Crystal cannot read anything higher. I used API calls instead of the AddItem method and my test results shows my function is at least 3 times faster than the AddItem Method. This download does not come with a database file, so if you'd like to test it then provide your own db. Please post the number of records in your ADODB recordset object, the time it takes to populate the combo box with the Additem method (just uncomment a line in my test project, it comes with a timer), and the time it takes using my RecsetToCombo function which is made up of a couple of API calls.

The code is a simple example (DLL) with two clients that shows how to set up one connection object and allow many applications to use that one connection. An ROT viewer may be required for testing. The applicaation uses the API call RegisterActiveObject to register the object in the ROT.

UPDATED - 12/07/01!!! This kind of goes against my article earlier this this week. In a new environment I was able to do two things. I was able to query a list of DTS Packages from my Server and then execute a chosen Package remotely. This can be easily modified to accept collections and remotely fire multiple Packages on a timer (which is what I'm using it for). If you downloaded the zip file earlier you may want to download it again since I've updated it and revised some of the references.

The zip contains a module called iPod.bas which can very easily be used to access the information about songs on an iPod (including the filepath of each song). Calling iPod.LOAD_DATA() creates two user defined type arrays: one array with the song information and another array with the playlists information. There are also 4 arrays which can be used to sort the songs by artist, title, album or genre. While the data is being loaded you can call iPod.ProgressString() to give your user some commentary on how what the LOAD_DATA function is currently doing. This is a spinoff of the ezftp. I needed data from an SQL database that the owner would not allow direct connect, but would allow ftp. This is a very complex FTP application that will connect to a SQL database, run a SQL statement and create a flatfile that can be imported into any other database. By just passing a verable you can use it with a test or production database. It uses Windows API declarations, with an ADO connection. It will write a log file that you can check for errors. After the SQL call has completed, it will then FTP the flatfile to another server and remove unwanted data. I left the SQL call in there because it has a union and if you are a beginner, this may be helpful.

This code was created as we do a lot of DTS Bulk Data loads with much of the business logic applied in ActiveX Modules in the DTS Package. We needed a quick and dirty way to script all this code out to (*.vbs) files that could easily be added to Visual SourceSafe. To script these 200 or so modules out would have taken a couple of days, but with this little utility you can list all DTS Packages and script out all ActiveX modules in a jiffy. I am currently adding code to also mine the ActiveX used in Datapumps as well. This really is only useful if you use a plethora of DTS Modules (ActiveX) to handle your business logic. This little app also has some other useful code that allows you to look up DTS Packages based on a filter. You can choose multiple DTS Packages to script out by either holding the CTRL key and clicking the DTS Packages you prefer or you can hold the shift key and choose a block of packages to process. It's really quite useful if you use an abundance of ActiveX Modules in your DTS Package.

Here's an offering... and a question. This is a static database (included) that I worked very hard on for some time. It's purpose was to create a base for renaming mp3 files. This was just an interface to form queries. However - and here's the question - When a table is selected [MCHARTS or CCHARTS] (the other two are empty unless exported to...) the listview fills fairly quickly. BUT, each subsequent "Get List" slows down to a crawl. I have closed the database, cleared the listview, you will see commented code where other attempts have been tried to eliminate the problem. Feel free to use the database in your own application. It covers the Top hits for each year from about 1946 to 2007 in MCHARTS and Country hits from about 1988 to 2005 with year and rank.
Make a backup of MS SQL Server 2000 database with filename format like BACKUP_20080129_151825.BAK unattended. Use Windows "Scheduled Tasks" to add when you want to run this program. This program doesn't use Timer to check the time to backup thus save resources. The routine can be set on Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Weekdays basis depends on the "Scheduled Tasks" settings.

The Restart Jobs button is not activated at this time, but the coding should be a snap someone wanting the ability to stop and start jobs from this application. I almost forgot about this program because I had it stashed away. This was actually my first effort a 'real' application. The Code is therfor horrible. I started a rewrite of it a while back but never finished it. One of these days I will rewrite it from the ground up and make it much more secure, anyway. This program is used to Add/Edit/Modify Users. It is ment as a stand alone application. So it would manage the users of a second program. All user information are stored in an INI file with the passwords encrypted. On the first run of this program it will bring you straight to the Add User Screen. The first user you create will be noted as the administrator. All users after will be a standard users. Easily changed in the file, though. Which is something I would work on on my rewrite. After the initial Admin acount is made you are then required to login when you run the program. Also, only the Admin can login to this program being as it is ment to control the users of a second application. The Control file has been set to the clean default, so check it out before you run it so you know what to change back if you wan tto reset it. I beleive that is all. This project is a database opener which basically opens any MSAccess database w/o knowing the password. The main purpose of the program is to open a passworded database, and retrieve the password. This is helpful for databases with forgoten passwords.
